Denise is a native of Alum Creek, West Virginia. She was raised in the Baptist faith and has a passion for children and women’s ministries. Denise moved to Winston-Salem, NC in 1999, following her sister’s family to that city for employment. In 2004, Denise met John while helping at a local church’s Christmas program. The rest as they say… is history! Only a short 6 months later, they were married.
Denise has been a stay at home mother for the past 7 years and a student for the last two years. She has been involved for many years with various children’s programs. Most recently, at Bunker Hill UMC, she taught Sunday School classes, co-directed VBS for several years, and was a part of many other outreach and evangelism programs to children, youth, and their families. Additionally, she served as worship leader, was a member of the Chancel Choir, and on occasion she was persuaded to perform special music with John.
She is a Junior at Liberty University, studying Christian Ministries, with a minor in Evangelism. She will complete her classes in 2017. In her free time, she enjoys reading and scrapbooking.
John is a “hometown boy.” He grew up in Bassett and graduated from Bassett High School in 1999. He attended Campbell University to pursue a degree in Church Music/Vocal Performance, but after various set-backs, he completed an Interdisciplinary Degree with cognates in religion and business from Liberty University in 2014. He is currently pursuing his Masters in Christian Ministries with a focus on Worship Ministries and plans to graduate in May of 2016.
John was ordained as an elder in the PC (USA) in 2009 while a member of Trinity Presbyterian in Winston-Salem, NC. While serving at Trinity, he was involved in the choir, PIRD (Presbyterian Inter-Racial Dialogue), led Bible Studies and taught Sunday School until relocating to Kernersville, NC in 2011.
From 2011-2014, Denise and John were involved with Bunker Hill UMC in Kernersville, NC. While at Bunker Hill UMC, John served as a Lay Servant Minister, Bible Study Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Chancel Choir, member of the Praise Team, and assisted in various other programs and outreach ministries.
John is employed by Bankers Insurance, LLC in Danville, where he and Denise make their home. After commuting to Danville for over 2 years from Kernersville, NC, they were able to move to Danville in the summer of 2014. They are now in the process of renovating a family home in Bassett and hope to move to Bassett this coming summer.
