What Difference Does the MHC Warming Center Make?
Volunteer Zee Koslov wrote this on the MHC Volunteer Facebook page
and has given her permission for us to share it with you -
We have closed our third season and I wanted to share some information.
We faced many challenges but we stayed open for 120 days.
We have served a total of 76 guests.
Between Nov. 15 and March 15 we averaged 20 guests a night.
On a single night in January we accommodated 25 guests.
Our guests came from all walks of life and ranged in age from 6 months to 85 years old.
To those who donated meals "Thank You." 18,240 delicious meals were served.
Happiness is to see 27 guests housed.
As, you can all see a larger shelter open year round is needed.
A place of comfort, a place to rest, eat and sleep is very essential for people to reclaim their lives.
I am hoping that this message goes out to our community and that we will achieve this goal.

MHC Warming Center Is Closed
for the Season
Please pray for our guests moving forward.
Each year, we meet such amazing people
and the end of the season is so bittersweet for all of the volunteers that serve.
We have been serving this past season on average, 20 guests a night.
That is 20 individuals who have relied on our center for shelter and meals.
20 individuals who will be unsheltered after the Warming Center closes for the season
since we are an Emergency Shelter, NOT a Homeless Shelter.
Please pray that soon Martinsville/Henry County will have a full time 365 day shelter.
It is such a high need.

Donations Needed
We are in need of sleeping bags and tents!
The Henry County Warming Center is closing due to the warmer temperatures.
This means we have individuals who do not have anywhere to go!
We are currently looking for donations!
What is needed:
- Tents
- Sleeping bags
- Blankets
- Pillows
- Flashlights
If you can donate, please contact the MHC Warming Center at 276.207.9660.
Please do not drop off items at Forest Hills.

MHC Warming Center continues to serve those experiencing homelessness during the winter months in our partnership with Forest Hills Presbyterian Church.
But we still want to reiterate, that this is ONLY possible
with community volunteers and donors.
We are 100% community driven and volunteer run.
Each night we are open, is dependent on members of our community
stepping up and serving those in need.
Do you feel it in your heart to serve? Or are you possibly willing to donate?

What I’m interested in seeing you do is: sharing your food with the hungry, inviting the homeless poor into your homes, putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad, being available to your own families.
Do this and the lights will turn on, and your lives will turn around at once. Your righteousness will pave your way. The God of glory will secure your passage. Then when you pray, God will answer.
You’ll call out for help and I’ll say, ‘Here I am.’ - from Isaiah 58 (The Message Bible)
