 Welcome to Forest Hills!

Join us in worship.
Due to a glitch in filming the service begins near the beginning of the sermon.
We are sorry about that but hopefully it will be meaningful for you.

Worship Service in Common Ground Chapel

SERMON:  “Treasure Hunting”
Rev. Cheryl R. Peeples

THEME:  Where your treasure is, there is your heart also; be alert and ready.

FOCUS SCRIPTURE:  “Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you.” (Psalm 33:22)

PRAYER OF PREPARATION - Faithful God, you bid us to remain awake and ready for your return. May we live expecting you every hour, that every day our lives will glorify your name and testify to your goodness. Amen.

HYMNS WE WILL SING: All are from Glory to God Hymnal

HYMN #35      “Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty”       (LOBE DEN HERREN)
HYMN #839    “Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine”               (ASSURANCE)
HYMN #384    “Soon and Very Soon”                    (SOON AND VERY SOON)

FIRST LESSON: Psalm 33:12-22  (NRSV)

33:12 Happy is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage.
33:13 The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all humankind.
33:14 From where he sits enthroned he watches all the inhabitants of the earth--
33:15 he who fashions the hearts of them all, and observes all their deeds.
33:16 A king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.
33:17 The war horse is a vain hope for victory, and by its great might it cannot save.
33:18 Truly the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love,
33:19 to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
33:20 Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and shield.
33:21 Our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name.
33:22 Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you.

SECOND LESSON: Luke 12:22-38   (NRSV)22 He said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat,
or about your body, what you will wear.
23 For life is more than food and the body more than clothing.
24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn,
and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!
25 And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to your span of life?
26 If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest?
27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you,
even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.
28 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven,
how much more will he clothe you, you of little faith!
29 And do not keep seeking what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying.
30 For it is the nations of the world that seek all these things, and your Father knows that you need them.
31 Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
12:32 "Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
12:33 Sell your possessions, and give alms. Make purses for yourselves that do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.
12:34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
12:35 "Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit;
12:36 be like those who are waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet, so that they may open the door for him as soon as he comes and knocks.
12:37 Blessed are those servants whom the master finds alert when he comes; truly I tell you, he will fasten his belt and have them sit down to eat, and he will come and serve them.
12:38 If he comes during the middle of the night, or near dawn, and finds them so, blessed are those servants.

News from Our Session
about Our COVID-19 Policies

FHPC has lifted our mask and distancing requirements at this time. Anyone who still needs to wear a mask and/or maintain distances for whatever reason should plan to do so. We suggest you ask your own doctor for guidelines of whether you may need to continue to mask and/or keep distances as best suits your situation.

Our seating for worship is designed so distances can be maintained by those who need them and masks will remain available for anyone who wants one. We ask you to please stay home if you feel ill. Many thanks for the care you have shown and continue to show for one another as we are respectful of each other's various needs.
