“And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matt. 28:18-20)
To help us deepen our connection to Jesus’ Great Commission Forest Hills Presbyterian Church supports local and global organizations and ministries.
The Mission Ministry has decided to provide each month information and prayer requests for organizations/ministries we support.
During the month of July we are specifically praying for:
Grace Presbyterian Church Project Literacy Summer Camp
This is the second summer of the Grace Presbyterian Church Project Literacy Summer Camp in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of the Blue Ridge. It is also a continuation of Project Literacy that some folks from Forest Hills have volunteered at over the past school year.
The Literacy Summer Camp runs for 4 weeks over the summer and is designed to help children who are struggling with reading. The children attend camp at Grace Church from 9:00am to 12:30pm, Monday through Thursday and also participate in Boys and Girls Club summer camp during the afternoons and on Fridays.
Forest Hills provided 5 scholarships this summer for children who did not otherwise have the resources to attend this camp, and we are also helping to provide volunteers. This is a great opportunity for us to partner with other Presbyterians in our community to provide help to children in need and also to show them the love of Jesus.
The children for Albert Harris and Patrick Henry Elementary schools who will be served this summer over 4 weeks of Project Literacy Camp at Grace PC.
Our partnership with Grace PC and with the Boys & Girls Club of the Blue Ridge who will be partnering with Grace PC to provide this opportunity to children in need this summer.
The volunteers who serve this summer.
That Jesus will be lifted up to all who are connected with this summer camp program.
This beautiful, mountainous country is the materially poorest of all Central Asian Countries. Latest figures report a 60% unemployment rate among men. Many men migrate to Russia for laborer's wages. This migration of men leads to other social and health issues including broken families and the spread and transmission of HIV.
Like other countries in the region the native population of this country is overwhelmingly high identity, low practice form of folk Muslim. Also similar to other countries of the region, less than one percent of this local population self identify as followers of Jesus.
While most people in the region are of 'Turkic' cultural background, this country's culture is Persian, a culture shared with Iran and parts of 'The Land of Our Hearts' to the south. Many would describe this culture as more colorful, relaxed and hospitable than others in the region. Pray for:
Families and individuals in this country, particularly the old, very young and sick.
The many single women raising children alone while their husbands, or former husbands, are away working in Russia or another more developed country. In the many cases the father is sending money home to support the family financially. In many case they are not.
The well being of migrant workers who toil under difficult circumstances, typically for low wage and who most often share an apartment with many other men.
The followers of Jesus in Russia who seek out and provide care and spiritual nurture for these migrant workers.
Our friends who are working in this vineyard to bring the Good News and the Truth to the local population.
The people of this land to have an open heart and the opportunity to hear about and embrace Jesus.
